When I look back on my fifteen years as a teacher, the most important year was my first. The most influential person that year was my NQT mentor. I was very lucky to have a mentor who supported, challenged and inspired me. As such, teacher development has become a passion of mine and I thoroughly enjoy mentoring new teachers. I’ve done this successfully within my own school and subsequently developed and ran an NQT support programme for Noctua Teaching Alliance. This led to a lead facilitator role for Red Kite’s ECF Programme which has been and continues to be a fantastic opportunity to develop new teachers and mentors alongside my ‘day job’ as Deputy Head of School at Moortown Primary in North Leeds.
