Starting your teaching career is an exciting and rewarding step. It is also a time of significant learning and development. The Early Career Teacher Programme (ECTP) is designed to help you build on your initial teacher training, develop your classroom practice and grow in confidence.
Red Kite Teaching School Hub works in partnership with University College London Institute of Education (UCL IOE) to deliver a fully funded programme for early career teachers and their mentors.
Through a combination of professional learning, practical activities and regular support from your mentor, you will have opportunities to explore new ideas, reflect on your teaching and apply your learning in the classroom.
The programme is designed to connect professional learning with the realities of your day-to-day teaching.
You will have opportunities to:
Develop your knowledge and understanding of effective teaching.
Explore evidence-informed approaches and consider how they apply in your classroom.
Take part in professional learning with other early career teachers.
Work with your mentor to reflect on your practice and identify areas for development.
Build confidence, develop your professional voice and establish strong foundations for your career.
Learning is structured to develop over time. In Year 1, you will explore key themes and build your understanding. In Year 2, you will deepen your learning through practice-based enquiries that connect directly with your classroom experience.

Our partnership with UCL brings together academic expertise and the experience of teachers and school leaders.
As a regional delivery partner, we understand the context in which schools across North and West Yorkshire work. We aim to make the programme relevant, supportive and responsive to the needs of the teachers taking part.
We want you to feel part of a professional community where you can share experiences, ask questions and learn alongside colleagues.
Your mentor will play an important part in your development throughout the programme. Regular mentoring conversations give you dedicated time to reflect, discuss your learning and consider how to develop your practice.
Your school will also support you through your statutory induction. The Early Career Teacher Programme and statutory induction are connected, but they are not the same thing.
For information about your induction and the role of the Appropriate Body, visit our Appropriate Body page.
