Schools play an important role in helping early career teachers make a confident and successful start to their teaching careers.
Red Kite Teaching School Hub works in partnership with University College London Institute of Education (UCL IOE) to deliver the Early Career Teacher Programme (ECTP). We are here to support schools with registration, training and the arrangements needed to ensure that ECTs receive the support and development to which they are entitled.
There are two steps to register your ECT:
For the ECTP, you must register your ECT and their mentor on the Department for Education (DfE) portal. This must be done for all ECTs, regardless of their chosen ECF provider.
Not completing this step will affect timely access to the online programme materials for both your ECT and mentor and could affect your funding for the ITTECF programme.
Please note that it is your school's choice which provider delivers your ECT Programme. During registration, make sure you select the correct lead provider and delivery partner, for Red Kite, that is UCL/Red Kite.
If you are new to Red Kite, or have chosen a different Appropriate Body provider, please complete our short registration form and a member of the team will contact you to complete your registration.
If your school is new to the ECTP and you would like more information about how the process has changed, you can book a one-to-one call with a member of our ECF/Appropriate Body team.
We can talk you through the process, explain the changes from NQT to ECF to ECTP, help you with the DfE portal and answer any questions you may have. We understand how complex this process can feel when supporting your first ECT, and we are here to help.
The Induction Tutor plays an important role in overseeing the ECT's statutory induction and ensuring that they receive the support and development to which they are entitled.
This includes coordinating the school's induction arrangements, monitoring progress, arranging reviews and assessments, and liaising with the Appropriate Body.
The Induction Tutor role is distinct from the mentor role, although both are central to a positive induction experience.
For further information about statutory induction, assessment and your responsibilities as an Induction Tutor, visit our Appropriate Body page.

Mentors are an essential part of the Early Career Teacher Programme. Schools should identify a suitable Mentor for each ECT and ensure that they have the time and support needed to carry out the role.
The programme includes mentor training and development. Schools should make sure that mentors understand the programme expectations and have opportunities to engage with the relevant training and resources.
The Department for Education provides funding to support eligible schools with the delivery of the Early Career Teacher Entitlement. This includes funding arrangements for ECT and mentor time, alongside support for participation in the funded training programme.
Funding is subject to DfE eligibility criteria and conditions, which may change. Schools should refer to the latest DfE guidance and programme communications for current requirements.
Please pay particular attention to mentor engagement requirements and the conditions attached to Mentor backfill payments. The DfE have stated if a Mentor does not meet the 75% engagement requirement, the school will not be eligible to receive 80% of the grant payment.
We recognise that not every ECT follows the same route or starts at the beginning of the academic year.
If you are supporting an ECT who starts part-way through the year, works part-time or has other circumstances affecting their programme, please contact our team for guidance on the appropriate arrangements.
