National Professional Qualifications

Teachers and school leaders across the region can now access a comprehensive new suite of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) FREE OF CHARGE.

Red Kite Teaching School Hub – a unique collaboration of strategic partners from across North and West Yorkshire – is delivering a comprehensive NPQ programme in partnership with Teach First. The programme represents the most widely recognised set of qualifications in the education sector for current and aspiring leaders. It is designed to fit in with the day-to-day realities of supporting teacher development and is structured to help teachers to integrate theory, practice and feedback, minimising time out of the classroom.

Our NPQ programmes will be facilitated by trusted leaders – all of them currently working in local schools – from a wide range of partners to reflect the diversity of schools across the region: urban and rural, academies and maintained schools, faith and community schools, primary, secondary and special schools. It means that the programme will always be sensitive to local schools’ context and circumstances, allowing teachers to translate course content into their individual settings.

All of the course materials are evidence-led and specifically aimed at broadening teachers’ specialist expertise and leadership capabilities. Course lengths vary from 12-18 months depending on the subject area, but all are divided into bite-size learning modules and self-study sessions that allow teachers to learn at their own pace.

Teachers can hone their existing skills or prepare themselves for future leadership roles through eight locally-delivered NPQ programmes:

  • Leading Teaching (NPQLT)
  • Leading Behaviour and Culture (NPQLBC)
  • Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD)
  • Leading Literacy (NPQLL)
  • Early Years Leadership (NPQEYL)
  • Senior Leadership (NPQSL)
  • Headship (NPQH)
  • Executive Leadership (NPQEL)

Each programme includes:

  • Evidence-based online content to refresh and build knowledge
  • Formative assessment tasks to support learning
  • Face-to-face seminars with a group of peers, facilitated by an expert leader or Teach First Development Lead
  • The opportunity to record reflections and consolidate learning
  • School visits and conferences

We hope to run NPQ cohorts from October 2022 and from February 2023. To express an interest in participating in an NPQ in 2022-23, please click here
