Hosted by Professor Tanya Ovenden-Hope, Provost and Professor of Education on behalf of Plymouth Marjon University and Marjon University Cornwall.
Rachel Lofthouse is Professor of Teacher Education at Leeds Beckett University and founder of CollectivED The Centre for Coaching, Mentoring, Supervision and Professional Learning. Professor Lofthouse is Visiting Professor with Plymouth Marjon University and Marjon University Cornwall and has contributed to our PGCert in Coaching and Mentoring over several years.
Rachel has worked in education for 30 years and has maintained a keen interest in understanding and enabling professional learning at all career stages and across education sectors. She has a specific research expertise in mentoring and coaching and has regularly published in this area for 20 years. Her current extended interests include developing practices to support a more sustainable education profession and more inclusive schools, and she is participating in EU funded projects on these areas.
Rachel says: It is hard to conduct a ‘Masterclass’ in 90 minutes, but on the other-hand it focuses the mind! Let’s start here. Coaching and mentoring are opportunities to also focus the mind. As a coach or mentor our role is to create the best possible space for thinking. How we do this and with what purpose helps us to distinguish between coaching and mentoring.
Expect an interactive masterclass, which will explore some myths, and create conditions for conversations. It will offer research and practice insights into emergent models of coaching and mentoring, as well as national and international perspectives to expand our horizons.
